Representative Fortney “Pete” Stark (D-CA) shocked his constituents when he told them that “The Federal government…can do most anything in this country…there are very few limits [on] the federal government.”
He went on to say that the death tax is a tax cut for the wealthy (he’s wrong, of course) and that it will come back in 2011 (not if voters have something to say about it!).
Rep. Stark’s remarks show why AFBI’s Death Tax Repeal Pledge project matters, and why we have to work hard to educate voters.
Today, I am proud to announce the 2010 Death Tax Repeal Pledge Video Contest. This is your opportunity to jump into the death tax fight – and potentially win some cash.
Here’s how it works.
You attend a town hall meeting, rally, or other public campaign event. Bring a Death Tax Repeal Pledge and your video camera (or iPhone, flip phone – whatever takes video).
When you have the opportunity to address the candidate, hold up the pledge and pose this question (or something akin to it):
“Congress has yet to vote this year on the death tax.No vote is a vote for a 55% death tax, the rate at which the tax returns on January 1, 2011. Research shows that permanent repeal will allow small businesses to create roughly 1.5 million jobs. Will you commit to supporting small business job growth by signing the Death Tax Repeal Pledge?”
Sit back and keep the camera trained on the candidate. One of two things will happen.
Please visit our video contest page for complete contest details. While you are on AFBI’s website, check out our Death Tax Repeal Pledge Tracking Center to see if the candidates from your state have signed. If not, go to their website or call their office to find the next public campaign event.
Bring your camera and pledge, and get ready to make history!
Videos must be submitted by September 15, 2010 to be eligible for prize awards. Send your video to AFBI’s Director of Communications and Marketing, Adam Nicholson: mailto:acnicholson@gmail.com.
Videos that meet our guidelines will be placed on AFBI’s website and sent to our reviewing committee.
Thanks for fighting with me for Death Tax freedom.
The Death Tax fight will soon be decided in the halls of Congress by your representatives. AFBI is leading the fight for repeal in Washington, but we cannot do it alone.
